A number of the town’s community groups are set to be recognised, after being shortlisted for a Doncaster CVS award.

Last month we asked readers to send in their nominations for the community group of the year, and we can now reveal which of Doncaster’s valued groups is in line for an award.

The groups nominated are: Aspergers Youth Club; Altogether 4 Autism; Cavy Corner Guinea Pig Sanctuary; Active Independence; Doncaster parkrun; Friends of Hyde Park Cemetery and Doncaster Foster Carers Association.

The winner of the award will be announced at a glitzy awards ceremony, which is due to take place on December 5 at the Keepmoat Stadium.

People working in Doncaster’s community and voluntary sector are set to be recognised at the awards, which has a total of nine categories including volunteer of the year. This year’s awards follow on from the successful debut Doncaster CVS awards, which took place in December 2013.

“After last year’s event we had incredible feedback from nominees and sponsors alike,” said Norma Wardman, director of Doncaster CVS.” She added: “This year, the awards are going to be even bigger and better with a few surprises in store for attendees.”
