Six charities in Doncaster are celebrating after walking away with a donation from the town’s branches of Barnsley Building Society.
The Society’s branches, on St Sepulchre Gate in Doncaster and High Street in Mexborough, each shared £1,000 between three charities after a public vote determined how the money should be split during a fortnight voting period.
The results of the public vote are:
£500 – Firefly Cancer Awareness and Support
£300 – Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
£200 – Doncaster Refurnish
£500 – Victim Support
£300 – Headway Rotherham
£200 – Doncaster Mind
The cash giveaway was part of the branches’ commitment to help local good causes where the Society’s colleagues and members live and work.
“The charities we chose provide invaluable support in our local community so we’re absolutely delighted to have been able to give them a cash boost with a share of £1,000,” said Elaine Parker, manager of the Doncaster branch of Barnsley Building Society.
Allison Rawson, manager of the Mexborough branch of Barnsley Building Society, added: “Because every vote helped secure pounds for the charities it felt right that the decision of splitting the money was put in the hands of our members and local residents. I can’t thank people enough for coming in to the branches during the voting period to make their vote count – I’m sure the money will make a real difference locally.”
