A historic piece of television memorabila is set to head overseas after being snapped up by a mystery buyer in an auction.
A 1950s pushbike which featured in scores of episodes of Yorkshire-filmed sitcom Last Of The Summer Wine was snapped up by a fan of the show at the sale in Lincoln last week - going under the hammer for £500.
Former Doncaster-based actress Jean Fergusson, who played maneater Marina in the long-running BBC show, had put the bike up for sale following her move to London from Tickhill after the death of her husband.
The bike, signed by dozens of stars from the show, had been expected to fetch £800 with interest in the TV prop from as far afield as Canada and Australia.
John Leatt, of auctioneers Golding, Young and Mawer refused to confirm the identity of the lucky buyer but confirmed that its new home would be abroad.
Jean said the bike held “a lot of sentimental attachment” and although she was sad to see it go, she said that there simply wasn’t room to keep it following her move to a smaller property in the capital.
