A GLEE-STYLE dance and music class has been hitting all the right notes with young people in part of Sheffield.

High Hopes Community Group set up the weekly sessions in High Green after winning £1,510 funding from Sheffield Homes.

The classes are aimed at 11-17 year olds and involve teaching dance as a way of encouraging exercise and confidence building.

It is the latest venture for High Hopes Community Group, which was established almost two years ago to organise events and activities in the area.

Members also run an under 5s dance club, a drama group, annual fun day, and club for the over 50s, which involves local residential homes and provides regular entertainment, including tea dances.

Rachael Pickin, who chairs High Hopes, said: “We already have a few members for the new dance class, but would like to encourage more to join.

“It’s lots of fun and great exercise too.”

Surjan Tiwana, north area manager for Sheffield Homes, added: “We are delighted to support projects like this that are at the heart of a community and provide a positive experience for children and young people.

“We wish High Hopes Community Group every success with their venture.”

The Glee dance and music classes take place at the Dance Studio on the Paces Campus, Pack Horse Lane, High Green, on Saturdays between 9.30-10.30am.
