Don’t let our museum go

I wholeheartedly agree with Gordon Murfin (Letters September 2), the Traditional Heritage Museum on Ecclesall Road is a gem and it would be a tragedy if it were to close.

Volunteers at the museum would be more than happy to take things forward if the University gave up the building and collection or rented the building out to ‘us’.

I believe this would leave the path open to alternative forms of funding such as Lottery Heritage funding.

The TV series about village projects shows what can be achieved. I’m sure solutions are possible if the University is prepared to work with those who are passionate about the museum.

I would ask the people of Sheffield to make their views known. We can’t afford to lose more of our heritage.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Prof John Widdowson for his unstinting efforts in saving important aspects of Sheffield’s history.
