Council staff have been raising awareness of a dog fouling problem in Askern, as part of the Love Where You Live campaign.

The Neighbourhoods and Countryside teams, along with a PCSO from South Yorkshire Police, spoke to 162 people at Warren House Park and handed out around 50 special bone-shaped poop bag holders to dog walkers.

Jackie Bailey, of Airstone Road, Askern, who was out walking with her Jack Russell Labrador cross Misty, said: “Fouling is a problem and there is a lot on the pavement.

“I have got five grandchildren and there is nothing worse than them stepping on it. Sometimes I actually tell people to pick it up if I see them leaving dog mess.”

Coun Cynthia Ransome, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “Dog fouling is one of the things that most annoys residents and it is really important that we educate owners about the issue.

“Doncaster Council runs a responsible dog owner scheme to reward those who do scoop up after their faithful friends.”
