A SHEFFIELD Labour councillor has ended up with divided loyalties between supporting his wife and political group.
Coun Steve Wilson, who represents East Ecclesfield, is Sheffield Council cabinet advisor for culture, leisure and tourism – a department which is proposing to close Stocksbridge Leisure Centre.
But as an assistant to his wife, Penistone and Stocksbridge Labour MP Angela Smith, he has published a press release calling for the leisure centre to be spared the axe.
Lib Dem councillor Joe Otten, who represents Dore and Totley, said: “His job is to issue a press release calling on himself to change his own decision.
“Amid this farce the people of Stocksbridge stand to lose their leisure centre.”
Coun Wilson declined to comment.
