Speculation that a disused Chesterfield car park is on the brink of collapse has been dismissed.
Some residents have contacted the Derbyshire Times claiming that the former West Bars car park was sinking into the ground.
However, Royal Mail – which owns the site – said the speculation was incorrect.
Royal Mail has submitted a planning application to Chesterfield Borough Council to demolish the site, which has stood empty since 2003.
Morag Turnbull, of Royal Mail, said: “The exact date for demolition has not been set and we are in the process of assessing all options for the future use of this site. It’s incorrect that the building is structurally unsafe. The building hasn’t been used for many years and we will make better use of the site.”
