ROTARY club volunteers from South Yorkshire have won an award from an international charity after donating equipment worth £15,000 for use in disaster zones.
Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club is being given the award by charity Shelterbox International after enlisting the help of schoolchildren to raise money to buy 25 boxes of life-saving items, containing items such as blankets, water storage and purification equipment and cooking utensils.
Schools which helped out included Keresforth Primary and Wilthorpe Junior.
Rotarians went around schools in Barnsley giving a presentation about the shelterboxes, each worth £590, to attract support.
Shelterboxes have been sent out by Rockley Rotary Club to disaster zones in Pakistan, Java and Haiti.
