A statue of former Barnsley test cricket umpire Dickie Bird has gone up in the world - to stop people hanging rude items on his outstretched finger.

The sculpture in his hometown has become a magnet for revellers who have hung objects such as condoms, bras and pants from it.

Now the life-size sculpture has been raised to five feet above the ground to make it harder to reach the statue’s finger.
