Dickens characters set their stall out on Victorian festive market - PICTURES

CHRISTMAS shoppers took a step back in time at a festive market with a difference.

The Victorian Christmas Market at Kelham Island Museum provided a warm Dickensian welcome, as visitors browsed the many stalls in search of inspiration for festive gifts.

More than 10,000 people were expected, making it the biggest event in the museum's calendar, featuring more than 80 stalls spread over different 'quarters'.

Among them was the Sheffield-Made section selling products with a local connection, as well as crafts, jewellery, the Christmas shop and festive food and entertainment.

There was also plenty to keep the kids entertained with a living history performance of A Christmas Carol starring Scrooge and the ghosts of past, present and future.

Singers, musicians and other performance artists also added to the festive atmosphere.
