UP, up and away!

Hundreds of balloons were released from the rooftop garden at Sheffield’s award-winning Megacentre to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The event was also the launch of a fundraising campaign to revamp the garden – used by about 60 children in Meganursery – with exciting new equipment.

Plans drawn up with the help of youngsters include a race track, a lookout tower, a performance stage and sand play.

Louise Davies, Megacentre director, said: “The balloon launch went brilliantly!

“It was a bit drizzly but the Lord Mayor came and the children were singing.

“The event also launched our campaign to raise £50,000 for the rooftop garden and we will be approaching funding bodies as well as doing some fundraising in the Megacentre. We want to open up the nursery to the community as well, so children who don’t come here can still enjoy the facilities.”
