DETECTIVES investigating a terrifying armed robbery a week ago today at a travel agents’ shop in Sheffield have seized a second car they believe the raiders used to flee the scene.
The BMW was recovered in the Ecclesfield area.
It is thought to have been used by the three-strong gang after they torched their getaway car - a Seat Leon stolen from Oughtibridge - off Rivelin Valley Road just half an hour after the raid.
They struck at Co-op Travel on Sandygate Road, Crosspool, at 5.15pm last Friday when two female employees were cashing up.
The robbers were armed with a gun and a knife and escaped with cash.
The South Yorkshire Police helicopter was launched and police cars raced to the scene, but the robbers got away.
Nobody was hurt during the robbery but the masked raiders threatened the workers.
Detective Inspector Chris Singleton, who is overseeing the hunt for the robbers, said: “We have reviewed CCTV footage from the shop and surrounding area and we are still interviewing witnesses and looking for people who may have seen something. We are also carrying out a forensic examination on two vehicles we believe the robbers used - a stolen Seat Leon they used as their getaway car and a BMW we believe they transferred into after they fired the first car.”
n Witnesses or anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
