A DEDICATED Sheffield fundraiser will be bringing a touch of nostalgia to The Star Walk 2013.
Derek Naylor hopes to give walkers a boost by playing music on his barrel organ.
He is the latest entertainer to volunteer to help out at the fundraiser which starts at 11am on Sunday, April 28.
This year’s event is open to all ages and is planned as a fun day out for all the family.
Derek said he was proud to be able to help out such a well-known Sheffield cause.
“I only bought the organ last year,” he said.
“I was looking for something to do - an adventure and to give a bit back to the community. I got plenty of music with it when I bought it and all you have to do is turn the handle.
“As long as you get the right speed it is fine.”
Derek has become a regular on the Sheffield fundraising scene and usually gives all his profits to St Luke’s Hospice.
“The organ has been going down very well wherever I play it,” Derek said.
“It is just the right size so I can push it.
“My photo must be all over the world now because so many people have had their picture taken with me.
“It is a conversation starter - perfect strangers come up and ask how old the organ is.”
All money raised from The Star Walk 2013 is going to the Women of Steel Statue Appeal.
The campaign needs £150,000 to pay for a statue honouring the women who kept our steelworks going producing weapons, planes and guns for the frontline.
This year’s walk is just a mile lap of Hillsborough Park so the women themselves, now aged in their 80s and 90s, can take part with their families.
