A SCHEME which has boosted business for more than 1,300 builders, electricians and plumbers across Derbyshire could be expanded into the high street.
Derbyshire County Council’s trusted trader project has grown into the largest scheme of its kind in the country since its launch four years ago.
It was set up to help residents – particularly the elderly and the vulnerable – find a reliable trader to do a good job at a fair price and to provide a boost for businesses operating in Derbyshire.
Every trader is checked by trading standards and must promise not to cold call, either by telephone or at the doorstep, before they are allowed to join.
Now the council is looking at the possibility of running a scheme along similar lines for independent retailers on the county’s high streets.
Coun Kevin Parkinson, council cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The trusted trader scheme has given businesses a real boost in difficult times.
“Many traders are telling us they have benefitted from extra work coming their way as a result of scheme membership.”
