Pupils at a north Derbyshire school stepped up their research into World War I with a whole day dedicated to understanding the realities of the conflict.

The dedicated day At Hope Valley College included interactive activities aimed at giving the students a real life look at the experiences of those that lived during the conflict.

These included cooking meals that would have been consumed on the front line, learning songs of the period, first aid wound dressing and training that included paintballing and orienteering.

Pupils also visited the Imperial War Museum North in Manchester.
