A SHEFFIELD asylum seeker has been taken to a removal centre and faces deportation despite a campaign to keep him in the UK.
UK Border Agency officials detained Bernard Mboueyeu, of Wincobank, yesterday.
He has now been taken to Holme House detention centre, Teesside, and is set to be flown back to his home country, Cameroon, on Monday.
The move has been made despite a plea by his wife, Sharon - a Lib Dem council candidate at the recent local elections - and support from trade unionists.
Bernard, pictured, fled to the UK after being targeted for supporting an opposition political group.
Despite his marriage, the Home Office has demanded Bernard returns to Cameroon to apply for a spouse’s visa. Bernard has offered to return to the African country if his safety is guaranteed.
