Plans to expand a Barnsley library will open up the facility to more users, according to councillors.
The £500,000 extension to Wombwell Library aims to provide more space for community and volunteer groups, along with regular visitors. The authority also hopes to run more events at the venue in Station Road as part of its transformation into a ‘community hub’.
Coun Alan Gardiner, Barnsley Council’s spokesman for corporate services, said: “This work demonstrates our ongoing commitment to making it easier for people to access our services by having them situated as much as possible under one roof.
“It will also provide an excellent addition to community life in Wombwell.”
Work will be funded by the council’s surplus assets.
Timelines have yet to be finalised for a start date and duration of the works.
