DELIGHTED butcher Daniel Wilkinson is celebrating after his dream bangers received a porky prize.

Daniel, from Scawthorpe, was marked 100 out of 100 for his traditional pork sausages to have them named Champion of All Sausages in a British Pig Executive contest.

He won the award at the BPE National Roadshow for the middle of England region, held at Newark Showground, and the honour takes him forward to the national final in London later this year.

He also won a gold award for his dry-cured middle bacon, and silver for his dry-cured back bacon and dry-cured streaky bacon, while one of his employees at Wilkinson’s Butchers, Dean Laverack, aged 21, of Finningley, won a gold award for his mustard sausage.

Daniel runs a shop in Bawtry and two stalls in Doncaster market.

He was delighted to win the sausage contest and is now hoping to do well in the national competition.

He said: “I don’t think you can get better than 100 out of 100 – the judge said it was faultless.

“It was really good to see Dean pick up an award too.

“I think the secret of a good sausage is what you use in making it.

“You need to use the best of everything. It is all down to ingredients, as long as you know how to put it all together properly.”
