There were ‘heavy delays’ to some tram services this evening after a collision between a tram and a car.

The crash occurred at 5.10pm in Hillsborough and caused yellow and blue tram services to be delayed, according to Stagecoach Supertram on Twitter.

But South Yorkshire Police did not attend the ‘very minor collision’, a spokesman for the force said.

“The tram driver and motorist exchanged details and were on their way,” a spokesman said.

Stagecoach Supertram tweeted: “Yellow route services are running with heavy delays due to an earlier incident. Sorry if you’re delayed.”

Another tweet added: “Blue route services to Halfway are running with heavy delays due to an earlier incident. Sorry if you’re delayed.”

UPDATE: Travel South Yorkshire has advised The Star that the crash was ‘minor’ and that trams are returning to normal as of 6.50pm.
