Dedicated and committed Sheffield activities worker is employee of the year

Sheffcare activities worker Darren Richards has been named the not for profit organisation’s Employee of the Year.

Darren, who works at Paddock Hill in Gleadless, one of the ten residential care homes operated across Sheffield by Sheffcare - received his award in a special ceremony at Sheffield’s Royal Victoria Holiday Inn.

He was nominated by Paddock Hill manager Louise Crocker in recognition of his dedication and commitment..

“Darren always puts 100 per cent into any task he undertakes,” Louise explained.

“He continues to amaze me with his imagination when planning an activity or organising a party and he encourages the service users and relatives to participate by providing musical instruments, fancy dress and creating a friendly welcoming environment.

“His creativity, enthusiasm, commitment and care that goes into his work is always of an extremely high standard and quality.”

The runner up in the annual awards ceremony was Hazel Gelsthorpe, who works as the clerk at Sheffcare’s Cotleigh home at Hackenthorpe.

“One of the most admirable things about Hazel is her passion and professionalism,” said Cotleigh manager Nick Iwanejko.

Sheffcare Chief Executive Belinda Black commented: “Every member of the Sheffcare team is special and has an enormous contribution to make the ensuring our residents are happy in their environment.

“Just once a year though we like to celebrate those people who really do go the extra mile and on this occasion we feel that both Darren and Hazel best represent the spirit that makes Sheffcare homes so special.”
