SOUTH Yorkshire National Union of Journalists is inviting members of the public to a meeting today to discuss the future of the press in the wake of the phone hacking scandal and the demise of the News of the World tabloid.
The event is being held at Central United Reformed Church, Norfolk Street, in Sheffield city centre, from 7pm.
The debate is called ‘Rupert Murdoch and the Phone Tapping Scandal, Power and Corruption’.
Among those attending will be National NUJ president, Donnacha De Long, Sara Bennett, Unite trade union National Executive Committee member for print workers and Granville Williams, of the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom.
The debate is set to last for around two hours and the public can pose questions.
