Death on train tracks at Sheffield Meadowhall Interchange

Police have been called to Meadowhall Interchange in Sheffield after a death on the train tracks near the station.

News of the man’s death broke at about 1.10pm.

British Transport Police went to the station at about 1pm along with South Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man, who died after being hit by a train, has not yet been identified.

A British Transport Police spokesman said:

“We were called to Meadowhall station in Sheffield shortly before 1pm on Saturday, 14 February, after reports a person had been struck by a train.

“Colleagues from South Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended, but a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are trying to identify the man, whose death is not being treated as suspicious, and inform his family.

“We are not treating the man’s death as suspicious, but we will prepare a file for the coroner.”

UPDATE: National Rail has confirmed the line has now been cleared, as of 3.30pm, and normal service should resume.
