AN ILLEGAL off-road biker who was involved in a road smash which left a Sheffield man dead has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.
Faine Bayliss, aged 25, was on the wrong side of the road riding a stolen red, black and white GasGas 250cc off-roader, along with Ryan Myers, 22, when the bike was in collision with a taxi.
Mr Myers, of Nether Shire Lane, Sheffield, died as a result of injuries sustained in the smash with a silver Ford Mondeo at 2.20am on October 31 2009.
The incident happened on Hawke Street, Carbrook, Sheffield.
Bayliss, of Birdwell Road, Grimesthorpe, Sheffield, broke his leg when he was thrown from the bike.
Police revealed the off-road bike was one of three stolen from the car park of the Etap Hotel, near the scene of the smash, earlier in the day.
A not guilty verdict was entered officially in relation to a charge of causing death by dangerous driving against Bayliss.
He pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking.
Judge Michael Murphy, sitting at Sheffield Crown Court, jailed Bayliss for two years and six months and banned him from driving for two years.
