Deacon role for gardener
A FORMER National Trust gardener will join his wife in the ranks of the clergy this Sunday, when he is ordained a deacon by the Bishop of Sheffield.
Chris Betson, the soon to be Curate of St James Church, Anston, is married to Laura, the curate of Aston, Swallownest and Ulley.
He said: "I am looking forward to getting to know the people in the parish and being part of the exciting times the church is in."
Chris, aged 28, from Swallownest, comes from a clergy family and has lived all over the country. He used to work as a National Trust gardener at Sheffield Park Garden, East Sussex, and then spent two years volunteering as a parish assistant in Cheadle, Cheshire
Chris will be ordained by the Bishop of Sheffield Dr Steven Croft at 6.30pm in Sheffield Cathedral.
