CONTROVERSIAL plans to replace a single house with 14 apartments in a leafy Sheffield suburb are set to be considered by councillors at a meeting next month.

Sheffield Council said a decision on whether to grant the application by Metropolitan Homes for the site of 135 Dore Road, Dore, is expected to be made at a planning board meeting on February 6 – although final confirmation of the date has not yet been made.

The plans have provoked hundreds of objections from villagers on the grounds the scheme is too large and will create too much traffic on an unsuitable road.

Opponents of the scheme are backed by Lib Dem councillor Colin Ross and former Tory Anne Smith, who lives close to the site.
