A FIRST look at forensics was enjoyed by youngsters who enjoyed new-style science workshops at a Sheffield library.

The sessions at Jordanthorpe Library were the start of a programme which will roll out across the city over the next few weeks.

A mock crime scene was investigated with the help of experts from Barnsley-based education specialists Sherlockbone.

Among the evidence were bones taken from real human skeletons.

The event was part of the city council’s Passport to Learning programme, which offers after school activities which lead to awards from the national Children’s University scheme.

Dany Rafferty from Sherlockbone said the workshops were designed increase the youngsters’ interests in all sorts of science, not just the techniques seen in the popular CSI shows - and also broaden their career horizons.
