Crowning moment: Kayleigh's unexpected second chance
WHEN this picture was taken Kayleigh Hewitt thought she'd come runner-up in the Miss Every Model competition, and just missed entry into Miss England.
Minutes later she found she'd won - when Liverpool girl Siobhan Perry was stripped of the title for posing topless.
Now Kayleigh, aged 20, the reigning Miss Sheffield, will get her own special 'crowning' at a ceremony in Stamford, Lincolnshire, this week.
"It was really good to come second. I was very happy with the result," says Kayleigh, from Rawmarsh, who will be competing in Miss England this September for the second year running.
Siobhan had fallen foul of the 'no nudes' rule and was 'grassed up' at the after show party.
Kayleigh, who like all the other 21 contestants signed a form stating she had not done Page 3 type pictures, tells the Diary: "I have never done topless."
She has posed for a lads mag but Every Model magazine editor Ruth Deane says she is happy with them.
The re-crowning is at the offices of EM, the 'bible' of modelling, "It's not something we have to do but it is something I would like to do for her," says Ruth.
"When this happens it means the then winner has missed the moment. Kayleigh's a lovely girl. It will be very informal, a case of giving her the winning sash and tiara."
Kayleigh, an accountancy student and part-time model, won the Miss Sheffield title in 2009 and agreed to keep it on this year when no new contest was held.
She was unplaced in Miss England last year but Miss Every Model is called the "heat to beat" as it provided last year's Miss England winner.
Kay leigh, anxious to hold on to her unexpected title, was having to keep her thoughts to herself but she said that while she knew 18-year-old Siobhan, she had not discussed the matter with her.
Ruth adds: "Kayleigh is a very stable, balanced, well-rounded girl and she offered no opinion on it . . . she's absolutely delighted and wins a professional photoshoot.
She will also be the magazine's cover girl in September, in time for the Miss England final on September 1, which will be televised for the first time in 23 years.
Kayleigh did have one thing to say after winning: "I'll be getting a lot more work now!"
