A criminal investigation has been launched after a fire broke out in a block of flats in Rotherham.

Fire crews from Rotherham, Dearne and Elm Lane in Sheffield responded to the call around 1am this morning to blaze at Grey Close in Eastwood area of the town.

The blaze was said to have originated in a communal corridor shared by different residents.

A spokesman from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said: "The fire was small in size but the nature of the incident has been passed on to police for further investigation."
