Sergeant Jeremy Fitzgibbons will appear before a public misconduct hearing next week accused of gross misconduct over his behaviour towards his colleague, described only as ‘officer A’, in 2015.

According to a description on the force’s website: “During 2015, Officer ‘A’ was employed by South Yorkshire Police and was a junior member of staff to PS Fitzgibbons.

“Throughout the summer of 2015, PS Fitzgibbons began calling Officer ‘A’ “Sweetcheeks”, would ask what she was wearing or whether or not she was wearing a black thong, during phone calls about work.

“On 25th September 2015, PS Fitzgibbons sent Officer ‘A’ a text message. In that text message he made a sexual innuendo about what he did when speaking to her on the telephone.

“PS Fitzgibbons’ behaviour towards Officer ‘A’ was unprofessional, inappropriate and breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour, in particular those paragraphs relating to ‘Authority, Respect and Courtesy’ and ‘Discreditable Conduct’.

“The breach of the Standards was so serious that it amounts to gross misconduct.”
