TWO women were in police custody this afternoon for trying to spit at Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.
The Liberal Democrat leader and Sheffield Hallam MP was in the canteen at Castle College, Granville Road, this lunchtime, speaking about Sheffield’s City Deal, when the women walked up and spat in his direction.
They were detained by security staff and Mr Clegg’s close protection team before police were called.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said this afternoon: “Two women were arrested in Sheffield after the Deputy Prime Minister had water spat at him this morning, during a visit to Sheffield City College.
“The women, thought to be in their 20s, are currently in police custody.”
