A WOMAN was rushed to intensive care after suffering serious head injuries in a street attack - in which people who tried to help her may have been injured too.
A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after the 34-year-old was assaulted at 8pm on Thursday.
Police said there were a number of people in the area - Chesterfield Road, Staveley, Chesterfield - at the time, some of whom tried to intervene and help the woman.
Some of them may have been injured themselves.
Det Sgt Paul Carrington said: “We believe some people tried to intervene when the woman was being assaulted and we think they may have been injured too. We’d like to speak to them and anyone else who has information.”
