A woman has tonight been charged with murder following the discovery of the body of a 93-year-old Sheffield woman.
Police found the body of Gladys Allen at her home on Crimicar Lane, Fulwood, yesterday, at about 9.05am.
Paramedics were called to the semi-detached house, but were unable to revive the pensioner.
A post mortem examination was carried out last night, but proved inconclusive.
A 63-year-old woman, arrested soon after Mrs Allen‘s body was discovered, was tonight charged with murder.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Susan Potts, from Lodge Close, Uxbridge, Middlesex will appear before Sheffield Magistrates tomorrow charged with murder.”
Next-door neighbour Frank Mellor said: “Gladys is in her nineties and she’s not been out of the house for the last seven weeks or so.
“A little while before Christmas she had a fall and cracked a few ribs, I believe.
“I don’t think she’s been quite the same since then. I am still in shock to discover somebody has been arrested in connection with Gladys’ death.”
Neighbour Alan Hunt said: “I used to see Gladys on the bus regularly.
“I haven’t seen her once this year, though.
“In fact, I don’t think I saw her in the last few weeks of 2013.”
