Witness appeal after gun reportedly fired at house in Rotherham

Police have appealed for witnesses after reports that a gun was fired at a South Yorkshire house.

The incident happened in Central Avenue, Rotherham, at about 11.15pm on Thursday, March 17. A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said two occupants of a house heard ‘what they believed to be two gunshots’. They came downstairs to find a ground floor window had been damaged. No-one was hurt.

Detective Constable Mary Glossop, the investigating officer, said: “This is being treated as a targeted incident and we have increased patrols in the local area.

“It is by sheer good fortune that no-one was injured in this incident and we need the public’s help to identify those responsible.

“If anyone was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, which they now believe may be linked to this incident, I would ask them to contact police.”
