Organisations protecting and supporting victims of domestic abuse, sexual violence and child sexual exploitation are to receive grants worth £1.9 million from South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner.
Shaun Wright agreed to help fund 17 organisations after making it one of his priorities to protect the vulnerable.
The Young Women’s Housing Project in Sheffield, which provides help and support to victims aged between 15 years and 25 years old, and the Rotherham Women’s Counselling Service are among those to benefit.
Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Tracey Cheetham said: “Every woman is at risk of becoming a victim of domestic abuse, with 27,342 recorded incidents of domestic abuse in South Yorkshire over a 12 month period.
“There are some fantastic organisations providing services to those that need them.”
