Drivers are being reminded to remove valuables from their vehicles after a spate of thefts from parked vans in South Yorkshire.
On one night alone – overnight on Monday into Tuesday – tools were stolen from four vans parked around Rotherham.
Officers said a pattern has emerged of van doors being ‘peeled back’ by offenders – using instruments such as crowbars – to steal tools inside.
The thefts took place on Bradstone Road, Herringthorpe; Broadway East, East Dene; Clifton Crescent, Clifton and Lathe Road, Whiston, all Rotherham.
Temporary Det Sgt Jamie Henderson, of South Yorkshire Police, urged drivers to always remove valuables, especially expensive power tools, from their vans at night.
He warned: “Vans do seem to be being targeted in these areas. But thieves can be stopped in their tracks if there’s nothing for them to steal.
“It only takes a few minutes to go to the trouble of taking tools and other valuables into the house at night, rather than leaving them in a van, and it can save an awful lot of time, hassle and money.”
