Tributes have been paid to a young Barnsley dad-of-two who died after being attacked at the weekend.
Nigel Evans died in hospital on Sunday morning after being assaulted on Sunderland Terrace, near the town centre, at around 5.50pm on Friday.
Emergency services were called to reports of a disturbance and Mr Evans was found unconscious and taken to hospital. He failed to recover from his injuries.
Magomeds Hizrijevs, aged 20, of Doncaster Road, Barnsley, has been charged with manslaughter. He appeared before Barnsley magistrates on Monday morning, was remanded in custody, and will appear at Sheffield Crown Court next month.
Tributes poured in for Mr Evans on the internet. His sister Sarah Evans, who posted on Facebook, said: “My brother is at peace now.”
Angela Priestley wrote: “Fly high with the angels and watch down on those you love and cherish. My heart goes to the family at such a sad time.”
Shelley Whyke said: “RIP Nigel. Such a lovely lad and you will be missed by many, such a shame.”
A post-mortem examination took place yesterday.
