A POLICE team which cracked a child grooming gang operating in Derbyshire has won an award for its work.
The team of officers worked on Operation Retriever which led to the prosecution of a gang of men who enticed young girls into their cars at night and lured them into relationships before going on to sexually abuse them.
As part of the probe the team took 1,782 statements and carried out 256 interviews with victims, witnesses and suspects.
The officers were named as winners of the 20th Gala Awards run by the Janes Police Review publication. The team won the Special Recognition Award.
Home Secretary Theresa May, who attended the awards ceremony, said: “It was a privilege to celebrate exceptional policing.”
