THREE nightclubs in Chesterfield will close for a weekend as their punishment for being caught selling alcohol to underage customers.
Staff at Inspirations, Isis and the Late Lounge all sold alcohol to teenage volunteers who were working with police and trading standards officers to check on how seriously pubs and clubs take licensing laws.
The clubs accepted the weekend closure orders instead of full licence reviews, which could have seen them losing their licences permanently.
Staff at all three clubs were caught selling alcohol during two test purchase operations.
Police licensing inspector Glyn Jones, who ran the operation, said: “All three premises have been very helpful and really want to work with us to prevent underage sales.
“They are looking at extra training for staff on how to spot to fake ID and ensuring the Challenge 25 policy is always used by both door and bar staff.”
The clubs must shut from December 2 to 4.
The punishment will hit them in the pocket as December is one of the industry’s busiest months of the year.
