Police have interviewed a teenager after racist messages were posted on Twitter after a Sheffield Wednesday match.

An 18-year-old man attended a police station on Friday and was spoken to under caution in connection with a tweet posted after Monday’s match with Charlton Athletic.

A number of Owls fans are alleged to have posted offensive tweets about Charlton boss Chris Powell after he celebrated with his supporters following his club’s 2-1 win at Hillsborough.

A police spokesman said: “Enquiries continue. South Yorkshire Police will not tolerate racial or discriminative content on social media sites.”
