Suspect still in France

A MURDER suspect arrested over the death of a Sheffield man outside his home is still being held in France while extradition procedures get under way.

The 19-year-old, who has not yet been named, was arrested in Marseille on the south coast of France last Friday and plans are being made for him to be flown to the UK to be questioned in Sheffield.

Detectives want to speak to him about the murder of 30-year-old Zabi Rafiq, who was stabbed to death outside the communal entrance to the block of flats he lived in on Callow Mount, Gleadless Valley, in the early hours of May 29. The married father-of-one had just finished work at a city takeaway shop.

The suspect was detained in France after a district judge in Sheffield issued a European Arrest Warrant.

It could take up to three weeks for him to be brought to Sheffield.

A hunt is also under way for another man who is known to have left the UK following the stabbing attack.
