A GROUP of 18 new Special Constables has joined Derbyshire Police.

They were sworn in at a ceremony at the force headquarters in Ripley on Monday in an event attended by Assistant Chief Constable Dee Collins, senior police officers and representatives of Derbyshire Police Authority.

The new recruits, who support regular police officers for free, have completed a training course covering crime scenes, road traffic collisions, statement taking and first aid.
