A NEW refuge is to be opened in north Derbyshire for male victims of domestic abuse

The building, funded by the NHS and to be run by North Derbyshire Women’s Aid, can accommodate up to three men at any time.

It has three bedrooms, a bathroom, toilet and communal living area and a communal kitchen.

The refuge is the only one of its kind in Derbyshire and offers male victims of domestic abuse a place of safety while they are given counselling and support to get through their ordeals.

Dena Trossell, strategic head of service for North Derbyshire Women’s Aid, said: “During their stay, which we anticipate will be around three months, they will receive all the support they need to rebuild their lives.

“This could include sign posting them to specialist help, whether it be for drugs, alcohol, mental health issues or any other problems which could occur.”

Women’s Aid runs a support and advice line for men.
