A SPECIALIST sniffer dog was used by police in Chesterfield in a crackdown on the possession and supply of drugs in the town.

Officers used Labrador Fred, from Nottinghamshire Police, to try to identify anyone in the town centre carrying drugs.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Rykneld Square on suspicion of cannabis possession and an 18-year-old was searched in the same area after being found in possession of suspected cocaine. Both men have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Inspector Glyn Jones said: “This is part of a project to make a night out in Chesterfield safer.”
