A PENSIONER’S bank card was stolen by three women who stopped and asked her for directions.
The 72-year-old was walking to her car when she was approached by the trio. One opened a large map and used it to distract the victim while an accomplice stole her bank card from her purse.
The OAP realised her card was missing later that evening and then discovered cash had been withdrawn.
The thieves, who struck on Rose Hill in Chesterfield, were of Eastern European appearance, slim, with long, dark hair. Two were around 5ft 3ins tall and the other 5ft 8ins.
Insp Steve Ball, in charge of policing in Chesterfield, said: “Thieves are using increasingly sneaky tactics. Shoppers should be vigilant at all times.”
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man was punched in his face during an attempted robbery as he walked along an unlit alley, off Chesterfield Road, Staveley, Chesterfield.
The attacker was white, around 6ft tall, aged in his 30s and wearing a green zipped-up hoodie and black jeans.
n Witnesses to the incident at 11.30pm on Wednesday, September 7, or anyone with information should call DC Alex Edwards on 0345 123 3333.
