A gunman is being hunted by police for threatening Sheffield supermarket staff during a robbery.
He brandished the weapon while demanding cash during the raid at Sainsbury’s Local on Machon Bank Road, Nether Edge, at 9.55pm on Tuesday.
Just four months earlier, at 10.30pm on Tuesday, November 12, a robber armed with a machete held up the same shop and escaped with cash from the till.
Money was also taken in the latest raid and detectives have issued a CCTV still of a man they want to trace over the incident.
They believe he may hold vital information.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “A man entered the store and threatened staff with what is believed to be a firearm to hand over cash.
“The man fled the scene on foot with a quantity of cash. There were no injuries sustained by anyone during the incident.
“Officers would ask anyone who believes they may know the identity of the man in the image to please contact police, as he may hold vital information to assist with the investigation.”
A Sainsbury’s spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the incident at our Nether Edge Local and we are helping the police with their investigation.”
There have been a number of supermarket raids across Sheffield over recent weeks, in which guns have been brandished.
The Spar and GT News on Twentywell Lane, Bradway, was held up last month by two men armed with a gun.
Two men also raided Sunbeams Tanning Studio on nearby Greenhill Main Road, Greenhill, the week before.
Officers in Sheffield are also investigating recent robberies at the Spar on Ringinglow Road, Bents Green; the Co-op on Derbyshire Lane, Norton Lees; the Spar on Ecclesall Road South, Ecclesall and two at Sainsbury’s in Bradway.
Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
