a ‘PILLAR of the community’ has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for drug running.
Taxi driver Jibraan Deen, aged 26, was arrested after being paid £100 to deliver a package containing heroin from Sheffield to Nottingham.
Jolyon Canlin, for Deen, told Sheffield Crown Court he was an ‘involved and respected member of his community with an exemplary character’.
He was given 44 character references supporting Deen.
Mr Canlin said: “He is a young man who has involved himself in a foolish venture.
“This has been a very big learning curve and a sharp lesson for him.”
Deen, of Elmham Road, Darnall, Sheffield admitted possessing heroin with intent to supply.
Sentencing, Recorder Michael Hubbard told him: “By the commission of this offence you have entered into the first division of crime. You can’t get much more serious than this in so far as drug offences are concerned.”
