A Sheffield woman was jailed today for making a terrifying hoax bomb threat to a supermarket that brought much of the city to a standstill.

The woman sent a text message to the Asda store in Handsworth on November 7 last year claiming she had left a bomb in the store that was timed to explode within 30 minutes.

Frightened shoppers and staff were evacuated as a major security alert was triggered, with emergency services closing off roads around the store for hours as they investigated the threat.

Full details of the shocking case and the woman’s 30-year-history of making frightening hoax calls to the emergency services will be revealed exclusively in tomorrow’s Star.
