A man has been jailed for breaking into the home of a Sheffield pensioner, who died two days later.
Dominic Ransom, aged 25, broke into his 76-year-old victim’s home in Heavygate Avenue, Crookesmoor, in the early hours of Thursday, July 17.
Police said his victim woke to find Ransom standing in her hallway.
She died two days later.
Ransom, formerly of Morgan Road, Shirecliffe, pleaded guilty to burglary during a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court and was jailed for three and a half years.
Detective Constable John Bowerman, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “I am pleased with the sentence given to Ransom as it reflects the seriousness of his crime.
“While there is nothing to suggest a direct link between the burglary and this woman’s death, we do not know what impact this stressful event had on her health.
“I’d like to offer my condolences to the woman’s family during this difficult time.
“Burglary is a violation of privacy and victims are often left feeling scared and vulnerable.
“South Yorkshire Police remains committed to tackling burglary and bringing to justice anyone involved in this type of crime.”
