A teenager murdered in Sheffield had had her head severed, police have revealed.

The body of Reema Ramzan, aged 18, from Darnall, was found in a flat on Herries Road, Shirecliffe, on June 4.

Aras Hussein, aged 20, of Herries Road, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with her murder.

Dressed in a blue T-shirt and flanked by two police officers, he stared straight ahead as he said he understood the charges.

He is also charged with five assaults on staff or police at the Northern General Hospital.

He was remanded in custody and the case was sent to Sheffield Crown Court.

A police spokeswoman said: “Miss Ramzan had suffered a severe knife attack resulting in fatal injuries, including the severing of her head.”

A statement issued by her family said: “We would like to pass on our heartfelt thanks for all the messages and support we have received.

“These have given us strength and helped us to try to deal with the nightmare we have found ourselves in.”

An inquest into Reema’s death was opened and adjourned at Sheffield Coroner’s Court yesterday.
